Tips on how to increase successful referrals

Some starting points for those looking for easy introductions:

  • Be Specific About Benefits: Instead of "check out this book site," explain concrete advantages: "I've sold 12 books in the past month and made $87 by listing them on NearbyReads."
  • Offer to Help: "I can walk you through listing your first few books if you want" removes barriers and increases follow-through.
  • Focus on Relevant People: Target people who actually read regularly and have books to sell. Five qualified referrals beat fifty uninterested contacts.
  • Share Personal Experience: "I found a book I wanted three blocks away and picked it up the same day" resonates more than general descriptions.
  • Address Concerns: Be ready to answer questions about safety, pricing, and time investment. Honest, knowledgeable responses build confidence.
  • Follow Up: Check in with referrals after they sign up. Help them with their first listings. Support increases the likelihood they list three books and qualify your reward.

When you refer new sellers, you're not just earning rewards for yourself. You're improving the marketplace for everyone in your area who reads.

FAQ

  • What if my referral lists through managed services? That counts. As long as three books are listed to their account, regardless of who physically created the listings, your referral qualifies.
  • Can I refer family members? Yes, as long as they create legitimate accounts and genuinely use the platform.
  • What if someone creates an account but never lists books? You don't receive a reward. Qualification requires three active book listings.
  • Is there a limit to how many people I can refer? No limit. Refer as many qualified sellers as you can.
  • What if my referral removes a book before 14 days? They need three active listings maintained for 14 days. If they remove books, they must list additional ones to maintain three active listings for the full period.
  • Can I share my referral link publicly? Yes. Post it anywhere you have permission to share links: social media, community forums, your website, etc.
  • What if two people refer the same person? The person whose referral link was used to create the account receives credit. Only the first click/signup counts.
  • How do I update my mailing address for gift cards? Update your address in your account settings before rewards process. Contact support if you need to update address for an already-shipped reward.
  • What if I never receive my gift card? Contact support with your referral details. We'll investigate and reissue if necessary.
